Mohawk Group to unveil first Florida smartflower

Cocoa, Fla.— In partnership with Brevard Public Schools and additional project partners, Mohawk Group will unveil a new smartflower solar energy unit at the Emma Jewel Charter Academy, located here, on September 27.

The fourth smartflower system of a 10-unit program — the first to be installed in Florida as part of a Mohawk Group initiative — will be unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony open to the public. Located in Cocoa’s Diamond Square Redevelopment District, the Emma Jewel Charter Academy was awarded the unit because of its ongoing implementation of school-wide sustainable practices and its desire to be the foundation for change in the greater Cocoa community.

Each smartflower optimizes the generation of solar energy using modular panels that autonomously follow the sun. The solar energy collaboration was created to reduce Mohawk Group’s greenhouse gas emissions and offset energy and resources used during some of its manufacturing processes. Guests of the unveiling will experience a demonstration of the technology and learn how the collaboration will offer new educational opportunities and the benefits of solar energy to the school.
