Chicago— Armstrong Flooring sustainability manager Amy Costello will participate in a panel presentation on “Designing with Carbon in Mind” during NeoCon, to be held here June 10-12.

Embodied carbon is a powerful tool that helps building industry professionals make informed product and system selection decisions, using quantified environmental impact information. The presenters will discuss basic carbon concepts that are entwined in the construction life cycle, together with best practices and tools to effectively leverage carbon. “In our session, we invite you to go from the carbon quagmire to being carbon confident as we cover carbon basics from project design through construction,” Costello said. “Join us if you would like to explore the science behind embodied carbon and develop the skills to communicate the value of this information to customers or other stakeholders.”

The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, from 2:30-3:30 in Room 6-180A at the Mart. The panel will also include Ken Sanders, managing principal, Gensler, San Francisco, and Karen Weigert, vice president, Slipstream, Chicago.

Costello is on the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) board of director’s advisory council, and she chairs the USGBC indoor environmental quality (IEQ) technical advisory group and ASTM’s sustainable manufacturing subcommittee. A registered professional engineer, Costello received her master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
