Aquafil’s Econyl provides a clean promise

Summer 2016

By Jenna Lippin

The innovative Econyl Regeneration System from Aquafil is based on sustainable chemistry. With this process, the nylon contained in waste like carpets, clothing and fishing nets is transformed back into raw material without any loss of quality.

It is common knowledge that waste is a by-product of any industrial production. Aquafil asked, “What if we could somehow turn this concept upside down?” This is exactly the idea for Econyl: reducing the amount of global waste by collecting it from landfills and oceans and feeding it back into production cycles.

In the past, committing to recycled materials often meant inferior quality or restrictive properties. Econyl fibers are just the opposite as they are not just recycled but 100% regenerated. Econyl fibers have the exact same properties as nylon 6 made from fossil resources but ensure a brighter future for generations to come. Following is a selection of products made with Econyl that provide clean promise: a respect for life and the contribution to the continuity of people and nature.

econyl_interfaceINTERFACE: WORLD WOVEN

The World Woven collection includes six skinny planks and three Flor by Interface squares, influenced by the familiarity of local historical textiles found around the world. The complementary patterns can define space, create area rugs or combine with the balance of the collection to add interest and detail. With its GlasBacRE backing, World Woven incorporates up to 81% total recycled content.

econyl_tandusTANDUS: CACHE TWEED AND GEOKNIT

URBAN PATINA

Equipped with a camera and $200 cash, Mannington sent six local designers into Austin, Texas, to capture whatever inspires them. What emerged was a unique layering of texture and color, reflecting the Urban Patina found throughout the city. Complex, weathered and anything but ordinary, Urban Patina illustrates a visual snapshot of the spirit of the city that inspired it.

econyl_millikenMILLIKEN: WHALE SONG

Whale Song is inspired by the life and habitat of the very oceans from which nylon waste is reclaimed to create Econyl yarns. The highly textured, loop and tip shear designs interpret the sound patterns of whales and celebrate the seas. Stretched and elongated or pixelated to convey greater definition, each of the collection’s four standard patterns and two made-to-order options offers its own perspective to the floor.
